wyeth
there's something still of pennsylvania in me... something of the texture of the sunshine, the shape of the hills and that incredible vivid blue of the sky in autumn... that never really leaves. something that lives in my blood, sits in a quiet place in my heart which speaks: home. not that it's there i want to return. who was it who said "wherever your treasure is, there your heart is also". is that from the Bible? well, anyway, looking at Andrew Wyeth's paintings (he died today, at age 91 - there was an article on NPR) is like looking through a window on my home. when i was little and saw his paintings at the Brandywine River Museum i didn't think anything special... but now, after being away, i know there isn't any other place in the world like it. and it's a place i know so well, because it's where i come from. no one can replace that.
